The temple is located in Belur taluk. It is about 35kms northwest of Hassan district. The temple was built over three generations and took 103 years to finish.
History: One of the Hoyasala king was Vishnuvardhana who come to power in 1110 CE. He built this temple to mark his conversion to Sri vaishnavism. It took 103 years to finish.

Architecture: The temple consists of 443.5ft by 396 ft court with several Hindu temple. The temple is sun facing. There are various stone carvings, monuments on the wall of temple. Some of the monuments are damaged. The temple was repaired in 1774 by a hindu officer of Hyder Ali some historians have found 118 inscriptions in the temple complex of 18th century.

By air: The Mangalore airport is around 130km from Belur which Bangalore International Airport is around 222kms.
By train: The nearest Railway Station is chikmagalur.
Timing: 7AM to 8PM
